Minnesota last won a season series against New York in 2023. Before that, you have to go back to 2001 to find a season the Twins ended with more head-to-head wins than the Yankees. Most recently, New York swept last season’s series 6-0, and its dominance in this rivalry is the reason for my Twins vs. Yankees prediction.

New York’s struggles since mid-June have been well-documented, as its 20-31 record over its previous 51 games is the worst in the American League. But Minnesota is only a game better in that span (20-29), which suggests New York has an excellent get-right spot in this series opener as my Twins vs. Yankees best bet.

Yankees righty Will Warren is one of just two of the team’s starting pitchers to record an out in the sixth inning since July 30. He is an underrated pitcher who had the same fWAR as Carlos Rodon after his last start. And his 4.09 xERA is better than his actual ERA, as he was heavily impacted by two starts of seven-plus earned runs allowed.

There has been nothing but support on the Yankees, who have been steamed up from -165 last night to as high as -185 at bet365. That makes FanDuel’s -172 odds a bargain in comparison, and is the only top sports betting site as of Monday morning with a price better than -175.

Left-handed and right-handed hitters have had the same number of at-bats against Twins righty Zebby Matthews this year, and lefties have a lower batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Matthews’ 2.38 FIP is the seventh-lowest of all qualified starting pitchers in the second half, and the fact that he did not allow a single barrel on three of his primary pitches in his last start suggests he has a great chance to neutralize Chisholm today.
